Here at Ginetta towers, we get lots of praise for our superb racing drivers and the endless laps of entertainment they provide. Yet, you – the public – often don’t get to find out what’s going on under those race suits and helmets. Okay, so it’s usually fireproof underwear, but what about the drivers themselves, what makes them tick?
So, because we love nothing more than a good chatter over a mug of Yorkshire Tea and some custard creams, we’ve sat our drivers down to ask them a couple of questions which should give you an insight into their lives. Or just entertain you for a minute.
This week, we’ve been chatting to our Ginetta Junior Championship front-runner, Will Tregurtha. We are sure he has far more exciting Twitter followers than yours truly however….
Ginetta: What do you have to set to ‘record’ on your TV when you’re away racing?
WT: I don't really watch TV. The only thing I record, except for my races, is the World Endurance Championship.
G: Who would play you in a film about your life?
WT: Alive or dead? Steve McQueen or Patrick Dempsey.
G: Who’s the most exciting person that follows you on Twitter?
WT: Ruth Harrison - the Ginetta legend!
G: We didn’t pay him to say that…
G: Do you have any pre-race rituals?
WT: No pre-race rituals. Although I won both races at Oulton after buying Steve, my mechanic, a Twix, so perhaps that should be my ritual.
G: What’s been the hairiest moment behind the wheel of a race car or go-kart?
WT: There have been a fair few times when I've gone… drifting. I'm not called Tokyo for nothing. There's a lovely on board video on my Twitter feed taken at Rockingham last year when I was slightly surprised to find another car sitting sideways in the middle of the track... it doesn't end well! I also broke my collarbone as a cadet when my kart rolled at Kimbolton following a crash.
